  • Synopsis

    Lullaby of the Tides is a song cycle and part of a global, multi-media project to celebrate 20 years of Jan and Nigel Stroud’s musical, Rainmaker. It’s especially suitable for large-scale concerts, where several organisations and wide age-groups band together for a joint performance. In addition to the big cast and choir numbers, there are opportunities for talented soloists and dancers.

  • The whole process was thoroughly enjoyable and the children loved the production. I still hear them singing ‘Wired for Sound’ in the corridors!! They want to perform it as their graduation song at the end of this year! The children were thoroughly exhausted at the end of it but they now know so much more about the process of a musical and it was great to watch them grow throughout the rehearsals. Many of the students now say that they wish to take drama classes as a result of doing Rainmaker which is really what it’s all about – helping them discover their gifts and talents. Song Cycle

At the heart of the cycle, are 6 songs and 4 pageants from the musical, describing the adventures of four children from South America who travel into the Rainforest to find the Rainmakers. Read more and listen here 

Six new songs expand and mirror the themes and provide a parallel commentary on the universal journey of life for people of many cultures, past and present. These songs, together with a narrative led by elders from different countries, cast light on the things that connect and unite us, what we believe, the animals that silently teach us and ‘all the light we cannot see’.

The work aims to help participants engage both heart and head whilst exploring our universal connections, and societal values, respecting differences and fostering open-mindedness, empathy and compassion.
